“‘We are going on, even if I have to crawl,’ I said.  ‘Even if they kill me, I am going to go down and find out how things are.’”

Transcript of taped interview. Paper, 8.5" x 11", 1 page, mimeograph. September 25, 1958. Written record of a taped interview of Dayuma by Elisabeth Elliot on the day of Dayuma's return to Arajuno, describing her visit back to the people of her village. This exceptionally brave trip laid the essential groundwork for Elisabeth Elliot and Rachel Saint to go and live among the Waorani less than a month later. The interview on the tape, both questions and answers, was in Quechua. From BGC Archives, Collection 278, Box 4, Folder 6. Click here or image below for enlarged version.
